How Utah Is Building the Future of Digital Government
Okay, this one blew our minds.
Amelia Powers Gardner, an engineer turned Utah County Commissioner, spearheaded a fully online marriage-license system using remote identity verification and a blockchain seal for verifiable digital marriage credentials.
Then COVID hit.
Suddenly, the system allowed couples separated by borders to marry remotely, including one couple separated between Texas and London whose story even involved a call from Homeland Security.
Today, Amelia is helping spearhead an even bigger push around citizen-owned digital IDs, privacy, blockchain, verifiable credentials, AI, and the future of digital government.
Her philosophy?
“It was more just my passion for making government suck less.”
